An encyclopaedia's worth of Models Own!

Hello! It's been a long while since I wrote a blog post, I guess that makes me the worst blogger in the world, however I have been busy exploring the land of retail! As many of you probably know, over the summer I have been working at Models Own, One of my favourite nail polish brands. And it has been amazing! They are an amazing company to work for, they constantly reward and motivate you as well as lots of free goodies! You are allowed to completely express your own style, I have had pink hair, false eyelashes and every lipstick colour on under the sun and it only makes your day at work more fun! Even my uniform involved a bright pink t-shirt and a set of too tight disco pants. All in all, a very fun place to work!  I have managed to collect quite a large collection thanks to the generosity of the company and also through my own spending addiction. So I thought, since I have effectively been putting their polishes through their paces over the last two months I am in a good position to rate them!
I have decided that although Models Own may not be as high quality as OPI or Jessica, for the price of £5, they are a lot better than their more expensive cousin Nails Inc. And arguably, Models own are a big contender in having fun, up to date nail trends for such an affordable price. The likes of those high end brands I mentioned before tend to be very muted and stick to popular 'mumsy' colours. Models Own however have the widest variety of colours, and the best glitters I have ever used. The best thing is, they do the six pack deal which means you get 6 for £20, which is £10 off, quite the bargain considering! I now know every colour by name (sad but true) so I thought I'd show you a few of my favourites!

This is my collection, although I'm missing a few colours which are at the bottom of my handbag and also my 5 nail art pens which I have been loving! As you can see its a varied mix between glitters, pastels, neons, nudes and the new gothic colours.
Had to throw this one in here, as it shows off our pink t-shirts and also the perks of working in a shopping centre!
So these nails consist of Strawberry Tart, which is an amazing baby pink colour that is opaque and not one of those nearly there french manicure pinks. It also is scented with strawberry fragrance making it the perfect girly nail polish. Another Scented pastel that I love is Apple Pie, it is a very light pastel mint colour which we are all loving at the moment, and it has a gorgeously prominent apple scent to it. I have used Blizzard, my all time favourite holographic chunky glitter at the bottom to create a cuticle glitter ombre.

This colour is called Hedonist. remember that name as its about to become your favourite nail varnish. It is from the HedKandi range and is the brightest neon red/orange I have ever used. It is THE perfect colour for toes and also for fingernails. It is so bright, it even glows under UV light which I discovered as I looked down at my glowing toes whilst dancing in the middle of a club.

Bubblegum pink, this is from the Ice Neon collection and is THE brightest pink you will ever buy. I guarantee no other nail polish company does a pink as bright. It again glows under UV light, although its so bright, it looks like your hands are glowing anyway. Its the perfect attention seeking barbie pink and a definite must have! In this picture I have matched it with Ibiza mix, which is one of my favourite models own glitter. Its is a rainbow glitter and one of a kind, as I have not seen any other mixed glitters on the market. It goes well with everything and can be painted to full coverage without a base colour.

Candy stripe nails have been a fave for me this summer. In fact candy in general has been my fashion inspiration this summer if anyone has seen my marshmallow skirt and Jazzie Jumper from TopShop. Here I used Snow white as a base. It is an opaque pure white polish and I definitely think it is an essential. I then used the Pastel Nail art pens which come with a nib and a striper brush. Here I have just used the striper brush to create vertical lines over the white. You could also just use a white brush and paint each nail a different pastel colour if you don't have all the pens.

I have used the same effect as above here, only instead I have used a black nail art pen over the white. This creates the perfect monochrome mint humbug nails. I then used a small amount of Ibiza mix to add colour with this glitter fade.

Models own have a large range of pale blues. Bluberry Muffin, which is a very pale blue scented with blueberry fragrance. Beths Blue, which is half way between a pastel blue and a pastel lilac, and the one this photo, BlooBoo, which is a sky blue. I adore this colour and I have contrasted it here with Pink Fizz. Pink Fizz is my ultimate must have fine glitter. It is pure champagne pink colour which is totally full coverage on the nail. It is subtle in colour, yet makes a huge statement in terms of glamour. It goes with everything and you must buy it.

This is the manicure I am wearing as I write this post. It is Snow White and Ibiza mix, the perfect duo of plain white and colour glitter. You can buy these two as seperate polishes, or as a duo where both colours are on a double ended wand. Very handy for your handbag and a professional mani without the effort!

I couldn't do a blog post without mentioning Luis Lemon. This is an acid yellow, which is best painted over a white base. It is so bright and out there that even I, yes I wonder if it can be pulled off. However, if you like crazy and I do, it is the most out there colour I have ever seen. If you're brave, in Luis we trust.

You may be seeing a trend here with my love of cuticle glitter fades, however the new Artistix Elements Duos are the perfect tool to create these. I have tried this colour which is called Cloud Drops and Ember red. Cloud Drops is the most gorgeous latte colour, and although I don't usually do nudes as I'm a crazy kinda gal, I did enjoy working this nude mani. The gold glitter adds fun but still keeps it sophisticated.
Ember red, was my favourite duo of this range. I have never worn a deep red, as again I thought it was too boring a colour, however it was the most gorgeous colour, and set off with the multi orange, gold and red glitter, it created the coolest looking mani I have worn in ages. It has me hooked on a deep red mani now.

Finally for the more technical nail lovers, this is my attempt at the infamous drip manicure. I turned mine into an ice cream theme using the Pastle pink nail art pen, over Snow White. I then used the nib of the Pastel Art Pens to create dots over the pink, these are supposed to resemble my favourite thing in the world, hundreds and thousands!!!

On a final, and boring note, I have been using Models Own 5 in 1 base and top coat. It not only protects the nail, but prevents yellowing, hardens weak nails and is a gel like top-coat all in one bottle. After using it continuously for two months, my nails are healthier and stronger than ever, so even if you buy nothing else from the bottleshop, buy this!

So that is all my expertise and favourites from my summer with Models own, and I hope you soon have a collection as large as me!
